A flavorful and nutritious homemade spaghetti sauce made with fresh ingredients and herbs, perfect for a wholesome meal.

Ingredients

Meat and Aromatics

  • 1.5 pounds ground beef
  • 3 teaspoons minced garlic

Canned Tomatoes and Puree

  • 2 cans tomato puree (29 ounces each)
  • 2 cans diced tomatoes, with juice (14.5 ounces each)
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 2 teaspoons lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 teaspoons dried oregano
  • 2 teaspoons dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme leaves
  • 1 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes

Instructions 

  • In a large saucepan, brown the ground beef with minced garlic. Drain excess fat.
  • Add the tomato puree, diced tomatoes, salt, lemon juice, olive oil, oregano, basil, thyme, and red pepper flakes. Bring to a low boil and stir.
  • Reduce heat to low and simmer uncovered for 45 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Serve immediately over pasta, or cool and store in freezer-safe containers.

Notes

For a richer flavor, simmer longer or add fresh herbs.
